Abstract
X, 86p - The general goal of this research is to examine how Ghana's tropical high forest resources are managed in terms of conserving and maintaining the quality of the environment, and to offer proposals for effective management to ensure judicious and extended use of the forest for the benefit of both present and future generations. It covers the period 1897, when the first Land Bill was passed to 1979. To achieve this goal, attempts are made to identify the manifold uses of the country's tropical high forest, particularly, those other than wood production; to examine in detail the concept of multiple use and its application to management of forest resources; to review the country's forest policies as they affect forest management practices on the objective of conserving as far as practicable the quality of the environment and the attitudes of forest operation on multiple use management.
