Abstract
VI, 90p - This thesis attempts to examine the effect of an effective rehabilitation scheme on cocoa production and related problems such as employment, staple food production and infrastructural development in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Data were obtained from survey, use of questionnaire, personal interviews and library research. The survey consisted of visits paid to the important cocoa producing districts including Ejisu, Offinso, Tepa, Nkawie and Jamasi, all in the Ashanti Region. The geographical background of the Ashanti Region and the need for the cocoa rehabilitation are discussed in detail. Further discussed are employment in the cocoa growing industry in Ashanti and the effect the rehabilitation scheme has had on employment. Examined are the effect of the rehabilitation scheme on infrastructure and staple food production. The study concludes that the establishment of the cocoa rehabilitation scheme of 1976 in Ashanti was welcome since it was intended to salvage the cocoa growing industry and to - KNUST LIbrary |
