Abstract
x,135p.:ill. - Food crop production is very important to the economy of Ghana. The food situation in Ghana has steadily worsened over the past years so the foreign exchange earnings from agricultural exports have had to be used for the purchase of food into the country. In years when food imports have lagged behind the gap between supply and demand, inflationary pressures have developed reflecting soaring food prices. As a result, various governments, particularly the government of the Supreme Military Council have been compelled to institute some policy programmes for increasing food production and supply. These programmes include the introduction and the supply of improved farm inputs such as high yielding crop varieties, fertilizers, tractor hire services, pesticides, irrigation and credit facilities to farmers at subsidized price. In the light of these measures and given the potentiality of the Atebubu area for the adoption of these innovations for increased production and output of major food-crops. - KNUST Library |
