Abstract
v.66p.:ill. - The project assesses the criteria of social profitability in some selected wood indusries in Ghana. It attempts to estimate the value added through production and uses this parameter in the estimation of product-capital ratio, Capital Intensity, and Labour productivity. Employment co-efficient of each industry is estimated in the form of employment per unit of capital employed. The Profitability of the industry is limited by many external factors - social, political and economic. These limitations are highlighted. It is noted that the problems of industry development in Ghana follows the same pattern; the scarce foreign exchange factor permeates and stifles all economic efforts to resuscitate industrial development projects. Emphasis is laid on the root cause of economic stagnation experienced in Ghana today; the Import Substitution Industrialisation policy. The study spotlights the contribution of the wood industries to the economic development of the Nation and identifies its potential. - KNUST Library |
