Abstract
Since the International Water Supply and Sanitation Decade (1981-1990), many developing countries including Ghana have given attention to domestic water supply and sanitation in urban planning and developing. However, the majority of the population who live in the rural areas still lack water and satisfactory sanitation, especially excreta disposal outlets. This paper documents the experience of the Bureau of Integrated Rural Development (BIRD) in the promotion of KVIP latrine and examines some of the technical and sociological problems associated with the technology in Ghana. |
