Abstract
Clifford Geertz (23.8.1926 - 30.10.2006) is counted among the most important culture theoretics and researchers of our time. He focused on ethnographic research in South East Asia and Northern Africa contributed important works to social and cultural theory. "Symbolic Anthropology" developed in the follow up of the Neo-Kantian, Ernst Cassirer. Clifford Geertz (just like Norbert Elias) emphasized the dependency of the human from symbols. Before his death, Clifford Geertz worked on ethnical multiplicity and its importance in the modern world. The Open Access Database HyperGeertzWorldCatalogueHTM (http://hypergeertz.jku.at) contains all public works by Clifford Geertz. Its documentation is based on researches in professional databases, in all kids of search engines in the internet (in all different accessible and national-lingual versions) as well as on extensive common research. Starting point for our bibliography was "Twelve Languages, Seven Disciplines, Five Continents: A Comprehensive Bibliography of Clifford Geertz" (http://soziologie.soz.uni-linz.ac.at/sozthe/staff/moerthpub/GeertzBiblio.pdf). Each entry is clearly defined, its code contains the following elements: (1) year of publication (2) category of publication (type of document) (3) language of publication (4) circulation figure. The category is differenciated by B (book), A (article, paper), I (interview), W (working paper), T (translation) R (reprint), AM (archive material). The language code exists out of four abbrevations and is self-evident. |
