Abstract
Mathias E. Mnyampala, a Tanzanian poet and writer, writing in swahili is deemed to have created a new poetic genre called 'ngonjera'. The ngonjera verses were composed to spread among the masses the socialist ideas of Ujamaa, Julius K. Nyerere's african socialism. The article includes recent data from my field research to the analysis of Mnyampala's theoretical concepts about poetry and the notion of poetics in order to give a more precise description of the process of creation of the ngonjera genre by Mathias E. Mnyampala. |
