Abstract Earlier work on the mangrove oyster is reviewed briefly. Cultivation technique based on work done at Buguma is presented. Potential for Oyster cultivation is discussed against the background of the Nigerian's fish protein deficit, available swamp land for aquaculture in the overall agricultural development policy.
