Abstract ENGLISH SUMMARY: An official statement has been made by the Historical Monuments Commission offering an explanation why architect Gerard Moerdijk's design was chosen for the Voortrekker Monument. The design would be genuinely South African and would provide opportunities for collaboration with sculptors like Anton van Wouw. - AFRIKAANS SUMMARY: Om verwarring in die pers te voorkom, het die Sentrale Volksmonumentkomitee 'n amptelike verklaring uitgereik wat verduidelik hoe argitek Gerard Moerdijk se ontwerp vir die Voortrekkermonument gekies is naamlik dat die ontwerp eg Suid-Afrikaans sou wees en geleentheid bied vir samewerking deur beeldhouers soos Anton van Wouw.
