Abstract
Inaugural lecture--Department of Industrial Psychology, Rand Afrikaans University, 18 July 1980 - The urgency of various problems facing South Africa calls for a rationalization of our activities in many fields. Although this seems necessary, certain traditions characteristic and supportive of a civilized society should be treated with caution. The tradition of viewing universities as scientific institutions on which pragmatism and short term exigencies have little effect should be honoured. Universities must, however, also be adaptable to the demands of the environment. With this in mind a case is presented for the training of manpower strategists at the Rand Afrikaans University. It is emphasized that South Africa needs qualified people who are capable of studying and integrating manpower information on a wide spectrum and on which future planning and decision making can be based. |
