Abstract
Photochrom prints show late 19th and early 20th century travel views of Europe and the Middle East, primarily of Eastern and Central European destinations (including the former Austro-Hungarian Empire). Includes cities and towns in Austria, Belgium, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Croatia, the Czeck Republic, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, the French and Italian Riviera, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Ukraine, and Wales. Also includes some views of sites in Algeria, the Holy Land, Tunisia, and Turkey. Also depicted are many views of the United States, Cuba, the Bahamas, and Canada with extensive coverage of Colorado, California, New York, Utah, Florida, Washington, DC, and other states. Images primarily depict architecture, monuments, landscapes, cityscapes, and waterfronts. Some images also show people and aspects of daily life. Also includes one group of unidentified views. - Prints bear English, French, German, and Russian captions. - Item numbers and the initials "P.Z." [i.e., Photoglob Zurich] appear on most prints. - The original prints are fragile; please use the online digital images. - Catalogue F.
