Abstract Após uma introdução relativa ao enquadramento da literatura moçambicana, com particular atenção ao ambiente cultural e literário da segunda metade do século XX e do período pós-independência, é delineada a poética de Eduardo White. Através da análise da obra completa do autor são postas em evidência temáticas caracterizantes da sua poética: o amor e o erotismo, a imagem da mulher, o Oceano Índico, a viagem, o Oriente e a Ilha de Moçambique. A temática amorosa é predominante na poética de White e constitui uma resistência às contingências do quotidiano, sobretudo no período em que Moçambique foi atravessado por uma difícil situação política e civil. Através da construção da imagem da mulher emerge uma reconfiguração territorial do próprio país, que se torna parte do espaço cultural, geográfico e histórico do Oceano Índico. A viagem, aérea ou marítima, configura-se como percurso de expansão e procura de novos confins, através o reconhecimento e identificação do sujeito poético com povos e países distantes. É sobretudo o Oriente que exerce uma fascinação particular em White, esse Oriente que é parte integrante duma identidade moçambicana em construção. E finalmente a Ilha de Moçambique, síntese entre o sujeito poético, a amada e local de cruzamentos históricos e culturais entre povos e identidades diferentes. Através da poesia Eduardo White re-imagina e reinventa o próprio país, reconfigurando-o dentro de novos mapas geográficos e culturais. - I will analyse the poetic of Eduardo White after an introduction to Mozambican literature, with attention to the cultural and literal situation during the XX century, in particular the period after the independence. Analysing the complete work of the poet I will put in evidence the most important themes of his poetry: love and erotism, the representation of the woman, the Indian Ocean, the journey and the Mozambique Island. Love is very important in the poetic of Eduardo White and it is part of resistance to the daily life, particularly in the period when Mozambique was passing a difficult political situation. By the construction of the image of the woman rises up the reconfiguration of his country which becomes to be part of the cultural, geographical and historical space of the Indian Ocean. Journey through the air and the sea is an itinerary in the direction of new borders by the recognition and identification of the poetic subject with distant populations and countries. It is the Orient that creates a particular fascination for the poet, that Orient which is part of the Mozambican identity under construction. Finally, the Mozambique Island, synthesis of the poetic subject, the lover and place of historical and cultural intersections between populations and different identities.
