Abstract
The project is written upon the hypothesis, that Morocco, in the wake of the Human Rights Council's Resolution on 'Human Rights, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity', has avoided harsh criticism as a result of their close relationship with the United States. The project portrays this relationship on both the financial and political level. The situation in Morocco is hereby presented in a more cultural, religious and sociological sense. In the discussion all these factors are drawn together, resulting in the conclusion that the Islamic tradition in Morocco still has a great impact on a variety of societal aspects, such as politics and social norms regarding LGBT rights. In this view, the United States alone cannot change the way the culture comes into play in Morocco. However, as the United States is such a powerful state, their relationship with Morocco might be a factor in the silence on LGBT rights in Morocco in the international society. |
