And also, the concern of the Federal Government to equalise educational opportunities for all children, their physical, mental, emotional disabilities notwithstanding.Since no one can be neglected without creating an impediment to others, the researcher saw the need to assess and identify the handicapped nomadic children with a view to determining the educational implications of this. As a diagnostic study, this research work involved the administration of batteries of test instruments; therefore, the subjects used were only five (5). These subjects were chosen through teacher nomination. The population of the study was primary four pupils of Mazat Ropp Nomadic School in Plateau State. The data gathered were analysed by means of Standard Deviation and percentages and the research questions were answered. Despite the few number of pupils tested, the analysis of data collected brought out some reasonable results. Out of the five (5) pupils tested, two (2),representing 40%, had problems in all the five areas, tested, which is an indication of learning disability. While three (3) representing 60% had problems in three of each of the five areas tested with varying degrees of severity. Therefore, the researcher concluded that handicapping conditions exist in our Nomadic schools as well as other schools as supported by various researches. Based on the above findings, the researcher ended by making inferences, highlighting the implications of this for Educational Planners and Administrators, and recommendations as to how such children can be helped. Also, suggestions for further research work on the topic in other states of the federation and other related areas like Hearing Handicap and Visual Handicap were made. It is the humble conviction of the researcher that if such suggestions are adhered to, they will go a long way in helping the Government to achieve education for all by the year 2000. |
