Abstract
This research explores agricultural development as a function of one local government area and how revenue has been expended or not within the sector. Department of Agricultural of Local Government area should deal with tractor hiring services for land clearing, agricultural extension, provision of fertilizer to farmers, and the like. Despite policy pronouncements, agricultural development is still a perennial problem. The sector cannot be sustained without financial resources. It is only when problems faced by farmers such as weed and pest control, land preparation issues, availability of fertilizer, marking of produce, and so on are tackled that there can be enhanced food production. This research has attempted to dwell on the way revenue has been managed in carrying out functions relating to agriculture, and how it has impact on increase in agricultural production. The ultimate aim is top assess role of local government in financing agriculture with specific reference to farmers in Gwer-West local government areas and to examine to what extent the LGA has achieved its objectives. Access to these agricultural benefits by farmers determines the agricultural and food sufficiency objective of the local government areas. |
