Abstract
CURRENT JOS LAW JOURNAL - Both children and adults are entitled to-equal protection of their rights and freedom under the law. This is so because they are, first and foremost human beings. Secondly, children are the most vulnerable group of human beings. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1979 provides in its Chapter Four on issues affecting the fundamental rights of all citizens. This means that all citizens are entitled to equal consideration and respect the child inclusive. The respective and relative portions of the other branches of the law did not loose sight of this important aspect of the protection. Article 8 of the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child, provides that parents or guardians shall have the primary responsibility for the up-bringing and development of the child, which include the right to adequate maintenance by the parents. |
