Abstract Que desafios pastorais se colocam hoje à Igreja em Moçambique? Que relação se pode estabelecer entre a(s) cultura(s) moçambicana(s) e a missão da Igreja na luta pela promoção da paz e da justiça? Ao longo dos últimos cinco séculos, época em que situamos a primeira entrada da Igreja Católica em Moçambique, várias foram as transformações que se operaram no seio da Igreja e da sociedade moçambicana, em função das necessidades e desafios concretos de cada período da história. Hoje, a Igreja debate-se com um profundo problema que é a justiça e a paz como caminhos para a promoção e valorização efectiva da dignidade do ser humano. Ou seja, se por um lado, no passado a Igreja esteve empenhada na primeira evangelização, transmissão da fé, mesmo em épocas menos claras da sua acção, na luta pelo fim da guerra civil, na construção e edificação das comunidades cristãs, hoje, a Igreja é chamada, por outro lado, a contribuir, com a sua voz profética, para uma sociedade mais justa, mais igual, onde todos possam ter o necessário para a subsistência e onde todos convivam como verdadeiros filhos de Deus e da mesma Nação. Por isso, tal como a sociedade tem o dever de zelar e prover às necessidades dos seus filhos, a Igreja é, igualmente, chamada, em virtude da sua identidade e missão, a lutar pelo bem-estar de cada membro da sociedade, a educar para o respeito pela vida, pela cultura e pela dignidade do ser humano. - What pastoral challenges are being faced by the Church in Mozambique today? What relationship can be established between the Mozambican culture (s) and the mission of the Church in the struggle for peace and justice? During the last five centuries, when the Catholic Church first entered in Mozambique, several transformations took place within the Church and the Mozambican society, according to the needs and concrete challenges of each period of history. Nowadays, the Church struggles with a serious problem, that is, justice and peace as ways to promote and effectively value the dignity of the human being. If, on one hand, in the past, the Church was engaged in the first evangelization, the transmission of the faith, even in less clear times of her action, in the struggle for an end to the civil war, in the construction and edification of Christian communities, on the other hand, the Church is called to contribute, with her prophetic voice, to a more just, more equitable society, in which all may have what is necessary for subsistence and all may coexist as true children of God and of the same Nation. Therefore, just as society has a duty to care for and provide for the needs of its children, so the Church is called, by virtue of her identity and mission, to strive for the welfare of every member of society, to educate for the respect for life, culture and the dignity of the human being.
