Abstract Trabalho de projeto de mestrado, Educação (Área da Especialidade em Supervisão e Orientação da Prática Profissional), Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto de Educação, 2020 - Este trabalho é um estudo de natureza científica, que procura compreender as principais causas que motivam o abandono e o insucesso escolar no estabelecimento de ensino alvo do nosso estudo, uma situação que há décadas contribuiu para o empobrecimento do sistema de ensino do país, e sem possíveis soluções a vista. Os factores culturais (circuncisão e excisão), factores económicos, a pobreza, casamento e gravidez precoce, baixo nível de escolaridade dos pais, são entre outros factores, que motivam o abandono e o insucesso escolar segundo as opiniões recolhidas juntos dos nossos entrevistados, disso associa-se as sucessivas paralisações (greves) no sector educativo, resultantes das crises políticas crónicas. Todas essas situações, constituem as causas que contribuem para o abandono e o insucesso escolar na escola alvo do nosso estudo, mas sim a nível do país em geral. O abandono precoce da escola e o insucesso escolar tem repercussão negativamente na vida dos adolescentes e jovens, visto que nesta etapa de vida que a escola contribui muito na maturação e no desenvolvimento das potencialidades enquanto humanos. Caso contrário, estes podem confrontar com algumas situações indesejáveis. Todos estes aspectos motivaram o nosso interesse em encontrar juntos dos nossos entrevistados as informações concisas acerca das causas que motivam essas práticas na escola e na comunidade arredor. São participantes significativos, porque são pessoas que trabalham directa ou indirectamente na escola e pessoas que vivem na comunidade, é de salientar que os nossos entrevistados, forneceram valiosas informações, algo que foi bastante produtivo para o enriquecimento do nosso trabalho. O presente trabalho é um estudo de caso, onde seguimos a metodologia qualitativa, com a recolha de dados através de entrevistas realizadas ao director, professor, aos pais encarregados de educação e aos alunos. - This work is based on a study of a scientific nature, which seeks to understand the main causes that motivate school dropout and failure in the educational establishment targeted by our study, a situation that comes from years that has drastically contributed to the impoverishment of the education system country in general, and whith no solutions in sight for its resolution. The cultural factors circumcision and excision, economic factors, poverty, marriage and early pregnancy, low level of education of the parents, are among several factors, which motivate the abandonment and the school failure according to the opinions gathered together from the participants of the study, this associates successive stoppages strikes in the education sector, resulting from chronic political crises. All of these situations are the causes that contribute to school dropout and failule at the target school of our study, and we think that this is not only true at the target school of our study, but in the country in general. Early school leaving and school failure, has a negative impact on tht lives of adolescents and young people, and in this age group the school contributes to the maturation and development of potential as humans. If not, they may face some situations, such as: protistution, alcohol consumption and narcotics. All of these aspects motivated our interest in finding concise information about the causes that motivate these practices in school and in the community around the school together with the study participants. They are significant participants, because they are people who work directly or indirectly at the school and people who live in the community, it is noteworthy that the participants in the study, provided valuable information, which contributed greatly to the enrichment of our work. The present work is a case study, where we follow the qualitative methodology, with the collection of data through interviews with the principals, teachers, parents in charge of education and students.
